An important issue arose during the Imamate era of Imam Sajjad (PBUH) is his resistance forms against Umayyad rulers and officials. In this paper, his forms of resistances are analyzed by a descriptive-analytic method based on historical data. The purpose of this research is to understand the methods of Imam Sajjad (PBUH) disaccord against the Umayyad rulers and officials. Contrary to popular beliefs that Imam Sajjad (PBUH) was ill for a while and was busy praying the rest of his life, findings of this study indicate that during each period of time, he manifested his disagreement based on the prevailing conditions. In fact, Imam Sajjad (PBUH) either explicitly manifested his disagreement with contemporary rulers or resisted through cultural works (e.g. praying, forgiving some individuals’ inappropriate behaviors). Also, in some cases he used taqiyah in order to preserve pure Islam.
